Project description
CITYnvest is a European project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. CITYnvest focuses on supporting and replicating successful innovative financing models for large-scale energy efficiency retrofit programs in buildings. CITYnvest features models, based on Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), Third Party Financing (TPF), revolving funds, soft loans, cooperatives and others.
Role and Achievements
Within the framework of CITYnvest project, Energinvest developed an extensive study and benchmark of existing successful operational and financial models for large-scale energy efficiency programs in Europe. This included the design of a standard analysis framework, the comparison of 24 existing models and the development of a number of guidance tools for public authorities wishing to design and implement their own models. Since its publication, the study has become a true reference work in the area in Europe. Based on the study outcomes and past experience, Energinvest also helps to apply the most appropriate innovative financing models in three pilot regions in Belgium (Liège), Bulgaria (Rhodope) and Spain (Murcia). In those regions, we help to set up dedicated structures and teams that act as knowledge centres and or public ESCO, supporting local authorities in planning and implementing retrofitting projects. By the end of the project, their efforts should result in signing three investment commitments worth more than 70 million euros. Those investments will bring substantial energy savings (58,6 GWh).
